TWO DIVISIONS RE-TITLED FOR 2010 AS MRP RELEASES TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
KALISPELL, Montana — Officials at Montana Raceway Park have announced that two racing divisions at the high-banked quarter mile facility will run under new names beginning in 2010. The announcement coincides with the release of the tentative 2010 season schedule for the Flathead Valley’s only professional sporting venue.
Going forward the division that had been running under the Limited Sportsman banner will now be known as Super Stocks. In 2009 Jason Robinson bested his brother Josh for the championship and the pair along with many of the top-10 teams and several newcomers will be back in 2010 for a chance to win the first title under the new name.
For 2010 the Compacts will have some added excitement as the facility has designated them as Crusin’ Compacts.
Fran Rehn is the defending Compact divisional champion and will be out to win two consecutive titles in the highly competitive four-cylinder class.
The lady driver will have her hands full as hard charging Tim Davis and Marvin Stone will be out to dethrone the champ in 2010.
Other highlights of the 2010 schedule include the annual Battle of the Border’s race pitting teams from the INSSA late model group against MRP’s late model drivers-set for May 15-and three appearances from the ARCA West Macs Late Model Series including July 3 and the Best of the West weekend on August 7.
The facilities premier event-the Coors Light Montana 200-is set for its 20th running on July 15-17 with race teams competing for purse money and prestige as the event marks two decades of racing action.
Gary Lewis is the three-time and defending Montana 200 champion and returns looking for another Big Sky title over Cory Wolfe, Mark Owens, defending MRP late model series champion, Alex Lessor and over three dozen drivers from the Western United States and Canada.
Legend car enthusiast’s return for the 9th Annual running of Legends Thunder scheduled for June 25-26. Spokane’s Jake Bissett is MRP’s defending Legend’s champion and returns along with older brother Joe to do battle in 2010 with the likes of Zach Havens, Wrango West and Tyler Corpron on a weekly basis and in the June national Legends qualifying event.
