2012 G.E.T. RICH PRESS RELEASE AND RESULTS

Kalispell, Mont.  (8-12-12)-  Racers and fans became rich Saturday night at the G.E.T. Rich at the Montana Gold 212 presented by Kalispell Toyota and TTC.  The man from Hingham, Montana cashed in big.  Ryan Wells lived up to his nickname, Flyin’ Ryan Saturday night as he won the Montana Gold 212.

Don Staggs claimed the first of three trophy dashes.  Dave Garber grabbed the B dash and Alex Lessor seized the A dash.  Two positioning heat races were ran to set the starting lineup for the 212 lap event.  Jeff Jefferson took the odd positioned heat race edging out Jason Fraser and Shane Mitchell won the even positioned heat.

The Drivers had the honor of riding kid’s bikes to the winners circle during introductions.  24 lucky children went home with bikes from their favorite drivers.  Shane Mitchell, the 2011 Coors Light Montana 200 winner started on the pole with Wells on the outside of the front row.  Wells applied pressure early on to Mitchell.  Jason Fraser passed Wells and took over second position on lap 10.

The defending Coors Light Montana 200 winner Jeff Jefferson started fifth and started climbing and took third from Wells.  On lap 21 Fraser and Lyndon Fritz collided with each other, causing Fraser to smash into the turn three retaining wall.  This crash ended both of their nights.  The race was red flagged for cleanup.  Mitchell and Jefferson challenged each other on the cone restart.  Jefferson took first from Mitchell and did not look back.  Mitchell fell back to fourth position.  This allowed Wells and Bodie Morton to take the 2nd and third place positions.  Jefferson pulled away from Wells and Morton and held onto first for 20 laps.  On lap 41 Jefferson’s run for gold was ended due to an expired motor.  This brought out another red flag for fluid cleanup.

Wells time to shine started now.  He took the lead at lap 42 and held off a determined Morton who used the cone restart to hold second position.  Morton raced Wells, but Wells would gain more ground on every restart.  Morton fell back and allowed Mitchell and Garrett Evans to move into the top three positions with Wells.  Evans challenged Mitchell for second on lap 84.  Mitchell’s car started to fade toward the end of the first half.  Corey Wolfe made a charge to fourth position and overtook Mitchell on lap 97 and claimed third position.  Wells continued to lead at the halfway break.  Evans and Wolfe rounded out the top three positions at the break.  A 30 minute half-way break allowed the drivers and crews to prep their cars for the final 106 laps.

Wells took off like a rocket in the second half.  David Garber used the extended half time to dial in his car and get a good run started.  Garber moved to third and then to second.  Garber got a great run going and was able to challenge Wells for the lead.  On lap 113 Garber took over the lead.  A dominate Wells was not about to give up his chance at gold.  Wells fought back and regained first in only two laps.  Gary Lewis moved into third, trying to gain ground on Wells.  Lewis passed Garber on lap 120 and held onto second.  Evans passed Garber and raced Lewis hard for 37 laps.  On lap 140 Lewis and Evans got together causing Lewis to spin on the front stretch.  This error sent both of the drivers to the back of the field and moved Garber back to second and Alex Lessor to third.  Lewis and Evans both made a charge back to the top racing on the outside to regain their lost positions.  Lessor overtook Garber on lap 150 and took over second.  At this point Wells had a sizeable lead on Lessor.  David Garber and Agni Howell battled for third and fourth.  Howell took third from Garber on lap 172.  Giles Thornton had a good run going throughout the main.  On lap 178 Thornton spun and went to the back of the pack.  This brought out another cone restart.  Wells chose the low side and shot out to another considerable lead over Lessor.

Nothing was stopping Wells in the closing laps.  He was on a rail and determined to win.  Wells came in second to Jefferson in this year’s Coors Light Montana 200 and it was his time to make the final run for gold.  The checkers flew and it was Wells in first.  Wells made history as the inaugural winner of the first 212 lap main event held at Montana Raceway Park.  Other drivers in the top five included Lessor in second, Howell in third, Shane Mitchell in fourth, and Gary Lewis in fifth.

All of the drivers made their way to the front stretch and were awarded over $50,000 in cold hard cash and gold.  Wells, Lessor, and Howell were awarded commemorative gold pieces for the event along with cash.
